Globular cluster in Ophiucus

One of the most oblate of all globulars, due to its proximity to the center of the galactic core. 28,000 light years away, almost 12 billion years old and one of Charles Messier's original discoveries.

M19 is home to several Cepheid and RR Lyrae variables.
