This is only your second attempt?? It looks great, that surprises me - the ragged flesh look is so gross (which is awesome). Two suggestions I have to try something else out - I bet using something like the Ben Nye Bruise wheel would give some depth to the flesh beyond the torn skin, since some varied bruising would go with torn skin. As well, I wonder if you could add some other drips of unusual colour coming from the torn part as well, just like the one from your eye. As an example here that make up artist used OCC Lip Tars to make some very cool looking drips of colour - I bet some black fluid leaking from the exposed machinery part would be awesome.
Thank you SO much for the feedback! I like the idea of the fluid leaking. I had not thought of that at the time. I also had not considered VARIED bruising. I did the reddish-color for a sort of "inflammation" look. I looked for some product to use for the coloring, but was fairly limited. I have recently relocated to a MUCH larger city and may be able to find some special effects supplies locally. I LOVE Ben Nye. I plan to continue practicing to refine technique. I loved doing this!
I can definitely see the inflammation look you were intending - it makes the "injury" look very fresh, if that makes sense. And I'm glad you loved doing this because it really does look like you have a talent for it, so I hope we'll be seeing more of your work. If you don't find a supplier locally for Ben Nye products, I've found Camera Ready Cosmetics to be reliable and quick as far as online suppliers go.
Thank you again. Also, thanks for the link. I am always willing to order online if I have to. This model was a girl I was in school with. She loved modelling for this. I need to get more models, and I will definitely be doing some more. I was in the military, so I am also interested in moulage. Will be doing more soon!
I love the peeling skin look. What kind of products do you use to create that effect?
I used Ben Nye Nose and Scar Wax and Ben Nye Liquid Latex. I had to blend the color of the model's skin with foundation and powder after that. I used Kett Sett HD setting powder to set everything.
