Erasing yourself from the Internet is really, really hard
I want to be findable and rooted, in my community and with my friends, but not easily discoverable by those who seek to do me harm. Doxing- the act of releasing someone’s address, date of birth, social security number, or other revealing information- used to be an obscure term for something only happened to hackers and the occasional gamer. Increasingly journalists, public figures, and normal citizens are all finding themselves targeted, for reasons as mundane as a comments section disagreement.
