Church Arson Investigated as Possible Hate Crime
Police are investigating whether a fire at a predominantly black church in North Carolina is a hate crime, authorities have said. A blaze was reported at the Briar Creek Road Baptist Church in east Charlotte just before 1 a.m. Wednesday and investigators have determined that it was arson, The Associated Press reported.

The church, which dates back to 1951 and was a mostly white church decades ago, hosts a weekday summer camp for children, which is now canceled and will soon be relocated. Police have not named any suspects, but said they are working to determine if the arson was a hate crime.
