American Publishers' Bindings on the Books of Amelia E. Barr
Today hardly anybody knows the name Amelia Edith Huddleston Barr (1882-1918), yet a hundred years ago she was among the most prolific and popular women writing in America. If it were not for the decorated bindings on her books I would not have known she existed.

The artwork on these old books is stunning. My father had a collection of about 5,000 books, mainly turn of the century boys adventure books, GA Henty, RM Ballantyne, etc. The covers of these books are very beautiful. He no longer has them all, but has kept a smaller collection. I was considering doing a snap on them at some point and then this popped up.
I think that would make a fantastic snap! I would love to see your father's collection. You might want to show your father The Art of American Book Covers site. There are many gorgeous covers featured there. Perhaps he would enjoy looking through them, if he hasn't already. ;)
Yes I will so a snap, a lot of the books he collected were British in origin, sadly my dad has macular degeneration and he is unable to see much- a big loss for a man who was an avid reader. He has tried audio books and various equipment but his dementia means that he can't really remember what he has read anyway. Becoming elderly can certainly have knobs on it.
On a brighter note his love of music remains strong and he gets a lot of pleasure listening to music- Marlene Dietrich, Edith Piaf, Vera Lynne. This seems to be in line with recent research into Alzheimers sufferers and music.
Oh, I'm very sorry about your father's ill health. Aging can be very difficult indeed. I'm glad he still enjoys music. Music is one of life's greatest pleasures, IMHO.
I look forward to your snap. Take care!
