I doubt "duck and cover" was actually used in the seventies. I did experience it in the fifties and early sixties. Sounds like a claim to me to add credence to his/her article. If anyone here fifty or under had this drill in grade or high school, correct me.

Yes, I had them as a kid in the 60's. UK had another public alert campaign in the 70s/80s called protect and survive.
