Chinelos celebrating carnaval in Tepoztlan, Morelos
With bearded masks and blue eyes the Chinelos mock the spaniards in their dance consisting of whistling and jumping. Their headdress, made of small pearls, and their gowns are home made. This 200 year plus tradition is passed from father to son to daughter. While the tradition started in Tlayacapan, Morelos only for Carnaval now it is danced all over the State of Morelos at family and village festivities.
