Much as I dislike him, there's one person or group who could fight ISIS in Syria more effectively than any other. That would be Assad. As long as Assad is busy fighting foreign funded fighters in Syria he is not going to be able to deal with ISIS.
Continuing to support the various anti-Assad forces is equivalent to supporting ISIS in the most effective way possible.
