I've heard tales of this game, and I think my friends would like to play it one day, but it requires so much commitment!
Play online. You can just allow submitting for moves every day, and have all day long to negotiate moves with everyone else. It's definitely a great game.
Seems like we could find enough people here to form games. Could use the PM system just as easily as snail mail for the moves. Maybe. I say all this having never played myself :)
All things considered, it might be better to play this game with acquaintances rather than close friends. Once the (elegant) rules have sunk in, it's not a big time commitment either. You just have to commit to ruthlessness, is all.
