The open-ended questions are what I feel give me too much wiggle-room, with me often saying something I regret - incredibly awkward. It's lost me 1 job interview, lost a few friendships, almost other ones, and luckily it at east didn't prevent me from being admitted to my university.

Embrace the awkwardness, and nothing shalt be feared. Just don't over-do it in professional scenes, is all. ;)
