Commenting on the Ars Technica site:

It's breathtaking to see the ignorance that our politicians proudly exude while they pass laws attempting to regulate technology. Giving the government wider authority to shut down websites isn't going to stop ISIS. It's going to lead to censorship. Companies like ATT will gladly spend more money lobbying so they can push their fast-lane game into play.

Besides, all available information indicates that the Paris attacks were probably planned through old-fashioned face-to-face communication. You can't stop people from communicating. Any attempts to do so will inevitably fail, and only increase the resentment for Western society that led to these attacks in the first place.

I'm not claiming to know what the solution is - if there is one, I haven't heard it yet. What I have heard are a whole lot of bad, wrong-headed, and ill-informed ideas. Why are our politicians unable to admit that they don't understand how the Internet works? Asking for advice from industry experts is not a sign of shame.
