Most radiation in low doses are pretty harmless as long as they are outside the body. Alpha rays which have a short range, will also deposit all of their energy over this short range, making them dangerous in the body since lungs don't have skin.Gamma rays usually don't deposit all their energy along their path making them less dangerous than alpha rays.
