Near as I can tell, the upshot seems to be that if you had a computer unimaginably larger than the observable universe, and you were looking to multiply integers that happened to be larger than 2⁴⁰⁹⁶ in a hurry, you could shave off a significant amount of work by adding this algorithm to your already sprawling list of cosmic powers.
