FTC: What Vizio was doing behind the TV screen
Consumers have bought more than 11 million internet-connected Vizio televisions since 2010. But according to a complaint filed by the FTC and the New Jersey Attorney General, consumers didn’t know that while they were watching their TVs, Vizio was watching them. The lawsuit challenges the company’s tracking practices and offers insights into how established consumer protection principles apply to smart technology.

This is way more important than people realize....
I have an older "smart" tv and have never plugged in because of this type of thing, I instead use Roku and an Amazon Stick because at least they are upfront about what they are doing.
I have a Vizio Smart TV manufactured a couple of years ago. Read some Comments about how to turn off interconnectivity - didn't match my setup. I mainly use it as a Monitor, so I'm disconnecting it from the router for now (connect it only when I need a feature).
