I was riding a friend's quad for the first time when I was 18 and managed to hit a hidden stream indentation on the dirt road that over-grown by grass so it was hard to see. Stupidly, I hit the brakes and as the quad hit the dried-out stream it flipped forward and I went flying off of it. I wasn't going more than about 20 km/h but I still did a flip and landed on my feet. I had a helmet but no other proper riding gear, just a shirt, shorts and flipflops. I quickly turned the quad over with the help of a friend riding behind me... yeah I guess this is just flat out luck, although, I was a beginner when it came to riding quads!

Once upon a time, I sold cars for a while. I did better than anyone else there my first month. I never replicated it, usually did just slightly above average sales after that. I quit after about four months because I hated pressuring people to buy things.

Likewise, I had a temp job working with a collection agency to coordinate car repossession companies and I did really well in spite of having no experience in collections. I had more than a few job offers from the repo owners because of my ability to interact with people and stay on top of the lists. It was only slightly less depressing than being there while my father died.

Sorry about your dad. I hope whatever you're doing now is much more rewarding or at least less depressing.

Thanks, me too. It was only a few years later that I got dragged into the IT world where I've been ever since. It's far less depressing, although we're in desperate need of a union to represent us as businesses develop automation to replace the non-programmers among us.

First time I sat down at a Roulette Table, I was so nervous. The dealer walked me through betting, and everyone was (mostly) not too annoyed with my newbishness.
I bet heavily on my lucky number 3. It hit.

I walked away with around $400.

Something similar happened to my wife. We were playing blackjack and she'd never played before, had no idea what she was doing. I knew the game at least well enough to play it on my own without help. Anyway, it was the middle of the day on like a Tuesday or something and the place was empty. The dealer basically told her exactly what to do on every hand and in a few hours we turned $20 into about $500 playing at a table with a $3 minimum. It was awesome.

Pool. Took the resident champion to the black. He congratulated me and shook my hand. Never played that well since.
