Commented in Father organises heavy metal festival for his music-loving son Mason, who has cerebral palsy
Wow, what an incredible bond Richard and Mason share! Going to concerts together must truly be an unforgettable experience for them both. It's amazing how they've seen so many bands together, around 1,200! It's heartwarming to hear that despite Mason's cerebral palsy, he finds so much joy in these outings with his dad. Their shared love for music has undoubtedly strengthened their relationship and created lasting memories. This story is a beautiful reminder of the special connections between fathers and sons, especially as we celebrate National Sons Day.

Commented in Google and Universal Music seek royalties for singers from ‘fake’ AI-generated songs
Goodness, it might prompt music labels to actually produce something that doesn't sound like a robot made it, which is all they churn out now. A novel idea may come out of this, let real people make real music without the formulaic contraints and see if that sells.

Commented in Snoop Dogg says the music industry 'isn't working' anymore because of streaming
Streaming has undeniably revolutionized how people access and enjoy music. It has provided listeners with unprecedented convenience and variety, allowing them to explore an extensive library of songs from various artists and genres. This accessibility has empowered music lovers worldwide, enabling them to discover new talent and broaden their musical horizons.
Moreover, streaming platforms have opened doors for emerging artists who might not have had the same opportunities in the traditional music industry. The democratization of music distribution allows artists to reach a global audience without depending solely on major record labels. This shift has fostered creativity and diversity, giving rise to a plethora of unique voices and sounds. I agree with Snoop's concern.

Commented in Windows 11 Slapping a Watermark on 'Unsupported' PCs
Just did my update, while I kept on working on some documents in Libreoffice, added several graphics that were made (pretty much at the same time) with Gimp and Inkscape, while playing some of my favourite Infected Mushrooms songs with my big-small-friend Audacious. And after the update, I just kept on going until all was finished. Except for the music, those beats are awesome. And now, several hours later, I'll turn my machine off after watching some episodes of Three Body. Did you notice any reboots? Exactly, neither did I. Gotta love my current distro (Arcolinux). Bye.

Commented in Judas Priest - The Hellion / Electric Eye
I was about twelve when this record came out and had a recordplayer in my bedroom. Saved up all my money to buy that album. The two songs presented here are the first two tracks on the vinyl. The first time this came out of my speakers, I knew immediately that it was my kind of music. It showed on the record, those two tracks were a bit dark-grey (instead of the usual black). They are still playing after all those years, even released an album not too long ago (2018). Still a fan. :-)

Commented in The Metaverse Will Reshape Our Lives. Let's Make Sure It's for the Better
I'm all for technological progress and I think that the current internet is just the tip of the iceberg of what has yet to come. I also think that a decentralized internet is the answer to a corporate claim of the networks, because at the moment we are being pushed to a conglomerate blob of commerce, which stifles or even stops progression. New or newer ideas get bought up and end in a drawer or, at most, gets separated and re-assembled in some sort of digital Frankenstein with the sole purpose to generate profit.
The early internet had succes because of its' openess and somewhat unregulated creation of content. It challenged common people to be creative within the constraints of coding languages, bandwidth and processing power. It is the same with a metaverse, although the constraints are now determined by several companies that have no openess in mind, let alone an unregulated form of creativity. The main goal is commerce, not expression or a drive to progression.
The biggest advancements of a metaverse will be when quantum-technology is better developed and commonly available or even open sourced, like HTML, PHP, MySQL are open source and freely to use for everyone. Again, it's an idea, but combine quantum-technology with decentralisation and open source and the worms are out of the can, which is my hope (or electric dream?). It's from chaos and somewhat unorganized developments that progress arises, not from overly controlled (and sucked dry to the bone for commerce) "enhancements".
Back to my coffee and cigarette. And later on easel, because, for now, the only metaverse I will know is made with paint, canvas and loud music. :-)

Commented in I’m nearly 60. Here’s what I’ve learned about growing old
The only world that has changed is my own. And that process is still going strong. What happens to my physical entity after death, or as I call it: redirecting my energy and timeline, doesn't bother me at all. I like Pink Floyd a lot, but there's a shitload of music in my collection, so I really do not have anything to quote, just because of the sheer amount I can choose from. Maybe this one as it is about time travelling, a thing everybody does while growing older. :-)

Bad taste after Covid? Then chandeliers and country music are proof the disease exists longer than we assume. ;-)

Commented in Spotify employees used internal message boards to express concerns about Joe Rogan's podcast long before the COVID-19 misinformation row, report suggests
Spotify gave Joe Rogan 100 million reasons to speak his mind so I am watching things unfold to see if Spotify censures him as the "heat" increases. Not a personal fan but I would rather listen to him than has-been music performers.

Commented in Science has fixed the worst part of psychedelic drugs usage for depression
Last year I have tried psychedelics for the first time in my life (I'm 51 years). Both out of curiosity and for getting insights LSD-25 (the classic), 1cp-LSD and mushrooms passed "the lab". I got my insights and it helped me with my attitude towards several things in life and a cascade of good things followed, courtesy of Mother Karma. But the thing is that the hallucinations were a real part of the entire experience and helped me understand the source of, for instance, my more or less depressed state of mind. Even the staring at the curtains and being really fascinated by the dance moves of the wrinkled up bedsheets helped me free my mind. And the colours! Oh, the colours were splendid and out of this world. Good thing it is not a drug that has habitual tendencies like alcohol (which I do not use for over six years) or cannabis (which I sorta quit a few months back, thanks to the psychedelic journies). Listening to music helped also boost all the wondrous things I was able to encounter during the sessions.
Taking away the hallucinations is not helping with the healing qualities of those glorious chemical compounds. Having a bad trip has mainly to do with the settings you have the trip in and with the sources of whatever you're trying to deal with IMHO. For instance: having babbling nurses and analyzing doctors around you won't really do any good to the effectiveness, I'd say. Also, having hallucinations helps you discover your true potentials and, believe me, is just worth undergoing it. Every trip, before ingesting the tab or capsule I gave myself a hug and told myself: "Whatever you see, hear or encounter, is you with the help of what you're about to take. And I will love that to its' full extent." Also: I did the trips alone, no disturbances, phone turned off, social media was forbidden, no communication but myself and the thoughts.
Researching these medicines is very good and will help a lot of people, I'm so sure about that, but please: healing is a fun experience, the visuals and silly stare downs of the carpet and wallpaper could make one wonder about what we don't see or forgot to look at. Anyway, let's see if those doctors and researchers will get that part. It might help if they tripped themselves before they started researching. It would save a lot of implants in those poor mice.

Commented in The hidden fingerprint inside your photos
Metadata is so last decade. ;-) Ever heard of steganography? It's a technique where you can hide, for instance, a textfile inside an image file, all neatly encrypted and password protected. There are several tools outthere, I use Photocrypt. According to the description of Photocrypt it works as follows:
It implements a modified LSB (least significant bit) substitution algorithm with password protection. Every bit of secret data is stored in the less significant bits (not always least) of the image pixel color values. This makes the stego-image practically identical to the original image. The algorithm depends on the key so it is unfeasible to extract data without the key.
The algorithm used in this program can be explained briefly as:
The 1st row of image is used to store the SHA1 digest of the password. The bits used to hide the data depends on the key itself. This is required to add password-verification feature.
The secret data starts from the beginning of the 2nd row. The bits used to hide the data depends on the key itself. The \0 character is appended at last to mark the end of text.
So, there you go! And try to think about the things you see online or the files people send you... is there something hidden inside it?
