Well, good for them! Sandler's movies are of variable taste and it's nice to know ahead of time that it's going to be a cringe-fest. Funny; not funny.

Generation Snowden: On Why Surveillance Reform Is Inevitable
Just before dawn April 6, the artists crept under cover of darkness into Brooklyn's Fort Greene Park and installed the 100-pound bust atop a Revolutionary War memorial. ... By 3 p.m. the New York Parks Department and police had taken the bust down. But the next morning, a different group of artists cast a holographic image of Snowden where the bust had stood.

A bipartisan proposal to make a universal basic income a reality in America
Its merits are many and varied. It would reduce poverty, but would be less politically vulnerable to cuts than other safety net programs because it isn't means-tested. Like food stamps and such, it isn't tied to work, so it would raise workers' bargaining power and thus their wages. Finally, by giving families some economic breathing room, it would roll back some of the market's encroachments into family and community life...

It does have that look - but that's another thing - the sign doesn't quite match the color balance of the rest of the photo.
Honestly, I'm not sure; there just seems to be something off about it.

In strangely related/unrelated news - no stats kept on how many dogs are shot, either.

It's said you can use them for sous-vide (water bath) cooking. I am somewhat dubious; I'll pay the extra for the properly rated vacuum bags. But even so, yes, they may well eclipse sliced bread.

Not exactly a reassuring headline, is it?
Let's be clear: That's just each expert's sense of things. We rely on hunches because real numbers don't exist, likely because no one thought it important to keep a tally until recently.

I don't see the advantage here unless the data can be easily taken from or delivered to the display. It seems likely that it could be. And I can't see how it would replace electronic whiteboards unless that was part of the package... but that's an assumption; the article doesn't mention that.

Who is Christina O'Gorman?
Early Autochrome portraits portray a young woman in a surreal dreamland, cloaked in a striking red cape. Mashable says that Christine was Mervyn O'Gorman's daughter. But if that's so - why is there no trace of her?

It's been colorized and I'm pretty sure that the sign has been added via photoshop. That sign owes more to the 1970's than the 1920's. In the 20's, I would expect it to be carved or hand-painted. but if it WERE printed, it would be lithographed onto tin. This looks much more like some form of transfer lettering.
It could be real - but if it is, it would be even stranger than the photo having been altered - probably for someone's website or brochure.

I've been ignoring this story because it's simply guaranteed to be a cesspool of stupid. And I mean that with truly multi partisan resignation.
But speaking as a Canadian, I think this is one of the best reasons to abolish the death penalty. There are certain things that provoke hysterical reactions and that reaction, if encouraged and stoked over time by ambitious prosecutors, elected judges and tabloid journalists, undermines the entire system of justice.
And on the other hand, what terrorist wouldn't willingly die for 24/7 coverage?
But simply banging him into a supermax for 25 to life solves the problem neatly.
Now, I happen to think that the prison system is also a problem and that in general it meets the test of being "cruel and unusual punishment." But that's another issue.

Rural Georgia city council votes to fly ‘Christian flag’ at City Hall over objections by its own attorney
Even after the city attorney told them it was a violation of church/state separation, the city council of little Cochran, Georgia, population 5,100, voted last week to fly the “Christian flag” over its City Hall. And the city manager tells us it’s still flying there now.

And people wonder why young folks want to live in the big city. In a small town, it's possible for two or three people to control everything.
Edit: As that related link you plopped in there shows - it might not even be ill-intentioned to end badly.
