"We refuse to turn off our computers, turn off our phone, log off Facebook, and just sit in silence, because in those moments we might actually have to face up to who we really are." - Jefferson Bethke

Astroturfing Reddit is the future of political campaigning
Earlier this year, Hack PR had a problem. The unorthodox public relations firm had snapped up a new client, a deep-pocketed entrepreneur with political ambitions. Unfortunately, nobody really knew who he was, and the campaign it launched for him failed to convert into any real coverage save for a couple of pieces in the Huffington Post and The Washington Times. They needed another idea.

There's a compelling reason scientists think we've never found aliens, and it suggests humans are already going extinct
Unchecked climate change would eventually lead to widespread devastation on Earth. Rising seas would inundate coastal cities like Miami, searing heat would increase human mortality, and acidic oceans would become inhospitable to fish and coral, leaving behind little but rubbery masses of jellyfish.

I Know I Sound Crazy But Please Cover Up Your Computer's Webcam
I always thought people who covered their laptop cameras were delusional conspiracy theorists at best, or delusional narcissists at worst. Side-eyeing my friends and coworkers who'd shrewdly covered their webcams with stickers and bits of tape, I prided myself on having never quite reached the level of self-involvement where I thought some Russian hacker actually wanted to infiltrate my damn MacBook and watch me sadly scroll through fucking Into The Gloss for hours on end, while lying in bed in that weird upright horizontal position that inevitably ends in you accidentally dropping the entire computer on your own face.

AT&T’s ‘support’ for net neutrality means tricking customers to fight against it
If you weren’t paying close attention yesterday, it may have looked like AT&T got onboard the net neutrality “day of action” protest. The company’s website displayed a banner saying that “AT&T supports an open internet,” and it sent a message to DirecTV customers mentioning the same thing. “Tell Congress to adopt permanent protections,” both messages added, before directing people to an “Open Internet” page on AT&T’s site.

Electric cars to account for all new vehicle sales in Europe by 2035
All new cars sold in Europe will be electric within less than two decades, driven by government support, falling battery costs and economies of scale, a Dutch bank has predicted. However, ING warned that with battery-powered vehicles accounting for 100% of registrations in 2035 across the continent, European carmakers would lose out to their rivals in the US and Asia who already lead on battery production.

Scammers Break The Kindle Store
On Friday, a book jumped to the #1 spot on Amazon, out of nowhere; it quickly became obvious that the author had used a clickfarm to gatecrash the charts. This is not the first time this has happened and Amazon’s continued inaction is increasingly baffling. Last Sunday, a clickfarmed title also hit #1 in the Kindle Store. And Amazon took no action. Over the last six weeks, one particularly brazen author has put four separate titles in the Top 10, and Amazon did nothing whatsoever. There are many such examples.
