Injured Florida Tortoise Receives First-Ever Turtle Wheelchair
One very lucky Florida tortoise has been given a second chance at life thanks to his new, custom wheelchair. A tortoise named Scoot Reeves was injured by a front end loader in Milton, Florida. He was left with his back legs paralyzed and his shell cracked. Scoot was brought to Hillman Veterinary Clinic in Pensacola in bad shape and was at risk of being euthanized due to his poor quality of life. However, Vet Techs Sasha Corbett and Shannon Chavers figured out a way to get Scoot back on his feet again.

A wild raccoon has moved into Heidelberg Zoo in Germany and keepers can’t kick him out. German daily Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung reported Friday that zoo staff recently discovered the uninvited guest inside the raccoon enclosure, where he seemed to be getting along fine with the seven original residents.

White tiger kills zookeeper in Japan
A rare white tiger has mauled a zookeeper to death in its enclosure at a zoo in Japan, officials say. Akira Furusho, 40, was found bleeding from the neck in the tiger's cage at the zoo in the southern city of Kagoshima. He was taken to hospital and pronounced dead. The male tiger, named Riku, was sedated with a tranquiliser before rescue workers and police arrived.

Puan, world’s oldest known Sumatran orangutan, dies aged 62 in Australian zoo
Zookeepers have paid emotional tribute to the world’s oldest known Sumatran orangutan, “a grand old lady” who died at a Western Australian zoo on Monday. Puan was given to Perth zoo in 1968 and is believed to have been born in Sumatra 1956. At 62 years she lived well beyond her typical life expectancy and was recognised by the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest verified member of her species in 2016.

Lions, tigers, jaguar escape German zoo
Two lions, two tigers and a jaguar that escaped their enclosures at a zoo in western Germany have been recaptured. The animals were found inside the zoo compound in Lünebach after a search involving a drone, officials told German media. Local residents had earlier been told to stay indoors.

A kangaroo has died in a Chinese zoo after people threw objects at it in an attempt to get it to hop. First UK polar bear cub in 25 years emerges
The first polar bear cub to be born in the UK for 25 years has emerged at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland's Highland Wildlife Park at Kincraig. Previously, the birth had only been confirmed by high-pitched noises heard from the maternity den. The cub was born in the week before Christmas, after its mother Victoria mated with Arktos, one of two male polar bears at the park. Victoria's enclosure has been closed to the public.

Paris zoo evacuated after 52 baboons escape enclosure
Fifty-two baboons escaped on Friday from their enclosure at the Paris zoological park in Vincennes, on the southeastern outskirts of the French capital, according to reports. The zoo has been evacuated, police have arrived and three marksmen armed with hypodermic guns are at the scene. The latest reports suggest that all but four have now returned to their enclosure after being caught "in a net", according to police sources.

Officials say 13 monkeys have died in a fire at a safari park in England, marking the second major fire at an animal attraction in the last two weeks. The fire started early Tuesday morning in the Patas monkey house at Woburn Safari Park, located 50 miles (80 kilometers) north of London.
