Tennessee man wrongfully imprisoned for 31 years gets $1 million
A Tennessee man who was wrongfully imprisoned for 31 years has been awarded $1 million by the state. In 1978, Lawrence McKinney was sentenced to 115 years in jail on rape and burglary charges. He was cleared of those charges in 2008 and was released from jail in 2009. At the time, the Tennessee Department of Corrections gave him $75 to start over. "It's been a long road for Lawrence," said his attorney, Jack Lowery.

Palm Coast man rigs door to electrocute pregnant wife, deputies say
A Palm Coast man rigged the front door of his home with wiring attached to a car battery charger in an attempt to electrocute his pregnant wife, Flagler County Sheriff’s investigators said. Michael Wilson, 32, is accused of trying to kill his wife after he attached electrical devices to the inside of the deadbolt lock and the door handle of their Palm Coast home, according to a charging affidavit.

Woman, 26, gives birth to baby who spent 24 years as frozen embryo
An East Tennessee woman delivered the longest-frozen embryo to successfully come to birth, according to the University of Tennessee Preston Medical Library. The National Embryo Donation Center (NEDC) says baby Emma Wren was born Nov. 25 to Benjamin and Tina Gibson.

Man shoots himself in church while advocating for right to have guns in church
A man accidentally shot himself and his wife inside a Tennessee church Thursday while advocating the right to bring guns to church. The individual was displaying a Ruger handgun to other churchgoers in the sanctuary about 50 miles south of Knoxville when he apparently forgot it was loaded, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel. “I carry my handgun everywhere,” he said while removing the ammunition magazine and showing the firearm to other members of the church.

Nashville narcotics officer caught stealing $5K in cash during sting operation
Metro Nashville Police said one of its own narcotics detectives was caught stealing more than $5K in cash during a sting operation at a motel on Wednesday and decommissioned. According to the MNPD, Special Investigations Division Narcotics Sgt. James Dunaway was caught pocketing the cash after he went to a motel with other officers for a drug investigation. Police said MNPD Chief Steve Anderson set up the room with $28,000 cash, four pounds of marijuana and undercover cameras for the sting operation.

Police: Nashville woman shot homeless man after he asked her to move her SUV
Metro Nashville Police said a Tennessee 26-year-old faces charges on Monday for shooting a homeless man near Music Row in August. According to the MNPD, Katie Quackenbush critically wounded Gerald Melton, 54, on August 26. Melton remains in the hospital as of Monday night. Police said Melton was disturbed by exhaust fumes and loud music from a Porsche SUV while trying to sleep on a 19th Avenue sidewalk around 3 a.m.

A Tennessee homeowner held two escaped inmates wanted in the killing of two prison guards at gunpoint Thursday until authorities arrived and made the arrests. Tennessee Highway Patrol spokesman Lt.
