How do you gauge people?
I hope this question isn't too weird, but I'm sure we all have some standards that make a person fit a certain pattern in our mind. Would you let us know what it is?

I'll give an example; if I want to see whether a person is open to jokes (and has a sharp mind), I tell them this joke and see how they react to it:
"A skeleton walks to the bartender and asks: A beer and a mop please"
If they laugh instantly, I'll know it's the kind of person who is nice to joke around. If they find it to be bland, then I will probably avoid being witty towards them, since my kind of humor is not similar to theirs.
I enjoy witty humour but found it bland. What happens to me ?
Good idea though!
I guess I will have judged you incorrectly then - I never claimed my system was perfect!
Perhaps another thing to try would be to ask them to tell you a joke ?
(I'm a bad example though, I don't remember/collect/write them.. a mere consumer.)
Sure... but then it might make them uncomfortable if they can't think of one. I don't think there is a full-proof system for this, and it's not even a bad thing, maybe it's meant to be that some people have common interests in some aspects and different in others.
I like (and get along with) all people except for the ones I irrationally dislike.
For me, its about if they look me in the eye when talking to me or don't look at me. I tend to trust those who look me in the eye more than those who watch their phone, computer screen, or look off to the sides.
