Winds and currents
Why is it that a northerly wind is a wind that comes from the north, and a southerly wind comes from the south, but a southerly current is a current going south and a northerly current is going north?
Also, I can never remember which way an onshore wind blows.

Wind blows from someplace. Currents are driven someplace. Shore winds, though, are described like currents, so onshore winds blow onto the shore from the sea.
