Kansas man wrongfully imprisoned for 23 years receives no compensation from state

Owners of KC area construction company guilty in $13.8 million ‘rent-a-vet’ fraud
The owners of a Kansas City area construction company have pleaded guilty to fraudulently obtaining nearly $14 million in government contracts by falsely claiming the company was run by a veteran. Jeffrey K. Wilson, 53, of the Village of Loch Lloyd in Belton, pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Kansas City to one count of government program fraud.

Family of man shot by police during ‘swatting’ call creates GoFundMe for funeral expenses
The family of a man who was fatally shot by a Wichita police officer responding to what turned out to be a fake call about a homicide and hostage situation has created a GoFundMe for his funeral expenses. Andrew “Andy” Finch, 28, had two children — ages 2 and 7 — his mother, Lisa, said. A candlelight vigil is planned for 5 p.m. Saturday in front of 1033 W. McCormick, the site of the shooting, according to a Facebook event post.

Police kill Kansas man while responding to an alleged 'swatting'
28-year-old Andrew Finch of Wichita, Kansas, was killed last night by police in what appears to have been an incident of "swatting." Deputy police chief Troy Livingston told the Wichita Eagle that police were responding to a report of a murder and hostage situation at Finch's home when he came to the front door and was shot.

Baby missing in Kansas, mother shot dead
The FBI joined the search Friday for a newborn girl after her father found the baby's mother shot to death in their Kansas home, police announced. The father came home in Wichita Thursday to find Sofia Victoria Gonzalez Abarca had disappeared and her 27-year-old mother was dead, police Lt. Todd Ojile said during a news conference. The child is believed to be in danger.
