30 Things to Watch Out For in an Art Rep
There are a lot of great ones out there but there are also some bad ones, so what follows are some important points illustrators should think about when deciding to approach one, and how to protect yourself from getting fleeced. I really feel they should work FOR YOU, not the other way around. You are not their employee, and they are not your boss. They should also not push projects on you that you have no interest in, or treat you as an extension of their brand.

Drawings of Apache Life, Made by a Prisoner of War in the Late 19th Century
Chicago's Newberry Library has digitized a series of ink and watercolor drawings of Apache life, made in the 1890s by Frederick Gokliz. Gokliz, a San Carlos Apache, was first imprisoned along with a group of Chiricahua Apaches at Fort Marion, in Florida, in 1886. Gokliz was married to a daughter of Cochise, a Chiricahua Apache chief who fought white settlement in Arizona throughout the 1860s, carrying out raids and clashing with the U.S. Army. Cochise died in 1874...

'They Called Me Leni'
First published in 1948 (revised 1959), Bezděková's Rikali Mi Leni was translated into many languages and seems to have been compulsory reading for many young adults. I was surprised to discover while putting this post together that it was translated into English in 1973. Titled They Called Me Leni, it included these 1967 illustrations by Eva Bednářová.
