China floods: More than 150 killed and hundreds of thousands evacuated
Floods in north and central China have killed at least 150 people, with scores missing and hundreds of thousands forced from homes, officials say. Hebei and Henan provinces are the worst hit by the flash floods and landslides. At least 114 people have been killed in Hebei, with 111 missing and 53,000 houses destroyed, officials say. In one city, Xingtai, at least 25 people died, prompting people to demonstrate against the government for failing to warn them of the flooding.

Beijing chaos after record floods in Chinese capital
The heaviest rainfall to hit China's capital Beijing in 60 years has left 37 people dead and stranded thousands at the main airport. The deluge struck on Saturday afternoon and continued into the night, flooding major roads, state media said. Roof collapses, lightning strikes and electrocution from downed power lines were among the causes of the deaths.

West Virginia Floods Cause 23 Deaths and Vast Wreckage
Record flooding in West Virginia killed at least 23 people, stranded thousands, left thousands more without utilities, and washed away houses, roads and vehicles after a band of thunderstorms battered the region on Thursday. With boats, helicopters and ropes, firefighters, law enforcement officers and National Guard troops rescued people from roofs of flooded houses, cars and trucks, and from mounds that had become temporary islands. Freight barges on the Kanawha River broke loose and slammed into bridges just west of Charleston, forcing them to close until inspectors determined that they were undamaged.

Paris shuts Louvre museum to evacuate artworks as flood waters rise
Officials have closed Paris's Louvre museum so its priceless artworks can be moved to safety amid the threat of flooding from the nearby River Seine. The Musée d'Orsay, on the opposte bank of the river, also closed early on Thursday night as a precautionary measure. The Louvre will remain closed on Friday to allow staff to evacuate tens of thousands of “reserve” paintings and sculptures in its underground store rooms.
