This is Lenovo’s Windows Holographic VR headset
Lenovo just showed us its first VR headset, a prototype device that works with Microsoft’s Windows Holographic platform. Next to other tethered PC headsets like the Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive, it’s noticeably smaller and lighter — Lenovo says it’s targeting around 350g for the final product’s weight versus the Vive’s 555g. The design is also pretty comfortable, taking heavy inspiration from PlayStation VR’s approach and suspending the lenses in front of the user’s eyes rather than securing them in place with a strap.

Meet Alto Tech's 'Cool Glass,' a vastly cheaper alternative to Google Glass
Not surprisingly, no one at the Alto Tech booth at CES wanted to call its Cool Glass a knockoff of Google Glass. Sure, it looks almost identical. The name’s nearly the same. But Alto Tech representatives said that it developed a custom fork of Android to power it, and that the applications it developed were proprietary. (There’s an SDK for developers to tap into, too.) But I’ve used Glass, and unless my memory deceives me, Cool Glass offers nearly the same experience at a fraction of...

BMW shows off mirrorless i8 concept car at CES
BMW showed off a concept car Wednesday that has no mirrors. The rear-view and side-view mirrors in the i8 are replaced by three cameras and a special screen to show drivers what's behind and around their cars. The i8 concept car was unveiled during the CES in Las Vegas. Two of the cameras are on the exterior of the car where side mirrors are normally located. But the struts that hold the cameras are significantly slimmer than existing designs.

We Test Drove A Bionic Exoskeleton That Will Make You Rethink Aging
R70i looks like the blue, robotic love child of C-3PO and Iron Man. Glowing lights line the bionic exoskeleton’s joints, which bend only at odd angles, and a chest plate gives the entire outfit a Superman vibe. But far from bestowing its wearers with superpowers, this bionic exoskeleton mimics the aging process, to help raise awareness and empathy for the elderly. When I strapped into Genworth’s R70i Aging Experience at CES 2016, an enormous consumer technology conference in Las Vegas...

Up close with Segway's new personal robot
Forget the Segway you knew. The next generation of this personal mobility device is smarter, smaller and, yes, cuter, than ever before. Intel teased the bot at its CES keynote on Tuesday, but it wasn't until the official unveiling on Wednesday that we finally get a good look at the black and white robot.

Fitbit’s new wearable is a fitness watch called Blaze
How do you compete in a growing smartwatch market without making a smartwatch? You make a dedicated fitness watch, one with smart notifications, but without all of the third-party app complications that come with a full-featured smartwatch. At least, that’s what Fitbit’s strategy seems to be; last year, it added the giant Surge watch to its stable of popular, lightweight activity trackers.

BMW's CES fever dream: a beautiful i8 Spyder with ridiculous technology
At CES today, I watched a man wave an empty car into an open parking spot. But that's old hat, really. Self-parking cars have been around for a while, and I even served as a hapless passenger in a self-parking BMW i3 last year. Science fiction brushes up with the auto industry so regularly these days — not just in concept form, but in production — that eliciting a genuine jaw-drop is nearly impossible.

I Saw the Future in Las Vegas, and It’s SkyMall
Like any good American child, I dreamed that adulthood would mean living in a house filled with stuff from the SkyMall catalogue. My dog would eat from an elevated dog bowl and play in a yard stalked by a garden yeti. I would offer my guests an all-edge brownie, and perhaps a drink delivered by Roswell, the alien butler. An automatic cereal-dispenser would portion my breakfast. Lighted slippers would guide my way to the bathroom or the refrigerator at night.
