Anyone interested in playing "Diplomacy" together?

Inspired by the comments from this snap, it seems that we could easily have a group of people play this game online.

There are a few websites that we can use:

http://www.backstabbr.com/

http://www.playdiplomacy.com/

It would be nice to have someone who has already played the game, but there is also a lot of info on how to play it in the links above.

Who's up for it? :)

EDIT Here are the people who are interested in playing! We need a total of 7 members and it seems that we have reached that number :)

I would be up to give it a go. Never played the game so would need some time to learn the basics.

I'm in the same boat as drunkenninja. It intrigues me, but I've never played before. But I have set up an account at backstabbr.com.

I'd be interested but I can't play until Monday, if that's not a problem.

My guess is that we might all like some time to read up on the rules before then anyway. Certainly not a problem from my point of view.

      No problemo! :)

I'm interested as well, will do some reading on the rules. Times are kind of limited by work hours though.

Well, I think you only really make decisions/moves once a day, and I think you can even set it to be longer. It's not a game that requires constant attention, from what I understand.

Ah great, count me in! :)

Yes I think that now that we have a few people interested, we can decide to start a game next Monday, and read the rules meanwhile.

I'm definitely in. Have not played before, though.

Never played, will read the rules and report back if I want to play.

BTW, the GamesByEmail implementation has an interactive Judger where you can test move scenarios while everyone is reading the rules, to see exactly what happens in certain situations. Sometimes it's easier to see what's going on when you are able to poke around at a move list.

If/when we do get a tribe games (or games) going, is this the site you would recommend we use?

I like that site for that feature, but for whatever reason the email alerts don't always go through to all players, and messages aren't necessarily persistent, so it requires more proactive paying attention, which may not work too well for 7 people who don't really know each other.

PlayDiplomacy is fine, I think I've only played there a few times. The messaging system is a little clunky, and I think the move creation is less interactive.

I haven't actually played on backstabbr, but it seems decent. They claim to have a sandbox, which looks like they will show how certain moves resolve, but doesn't do it as well as gamesbyemail. (You need to actually click submit orders to see how scenarios would play out, instead of the board being updated with resolved moves). Interactive map for declaring moves is nice though. I think the thing I like the least about them is the minimized interface (including region name minimization).

So, if it was up to you, what method or site would you pick for any games we organize here?

Hmm.. I guess I'd choose GamesByEmail, because even though the messaging is flakey, it feels like it handles movement orders the clearest, which is probably the most important with so many new players.

Well, it's not up to me, but I'm glad to have the advice from someone who has actually played the game :)

I think it is best if we follow your recommendation then.

Hmmm... I would be interested in playing this as well. Technically, I have never played this before. But, I am interested in trying this one out.
