What is something you were taught in school that turned out to be complete B.S.?

I remember my teacher telling me that I needed to learn basic math because I would not always have a calculator on me. Any half decent smart phone from the last 10 years has a calculator on it.

    The world has more oil in the ground than we will ever need. 8th grand Science Teacher in 1969.

    We will never send a space probe past Mars, we can't build machines that will last long enough in space to get to Jupiter. Freshman Science Teacher in 1970.
