I've had some mild variations of this in Minecraft,such as a stomach lurch when I suddenly overstep a block as an example.
Not really surprising. You stare at a screen for hours listening to the same sound and music with complete focus on the task. I'm sure that the brain will make some pretty strong connections there. I'd bet those "hardcore gamers" are the types who plays some FPS or MOBA too where you play the same map again and again and again.
