There Used To Be Canals In Downtown Manhattan
Just like in Venice, and that other Venice in Los Angeles, Manhattan once had canals.

I'd be down to recreate downtown Manhattan like Venice but with skyscrapers.
The street names sometimes give the origin away: Canal Street, Wall Street, Broad Street (which was over the infilled Broad Canal), etc.
