New Sewing Drinking Game!!
Every time you hand cover a button with cloth, have a shot. The tedium is killing me with this. I have to have 22 cloth buttons and sewing them is boring. I found the bottom of a shot glass is the perfect size for the cloth outlines.

Hand sewn cloth buttons.
How to make cloth button tops.
I currently need 22 cloth covered buttons but I don't want to spend a lot of money on them. I have made cloth buttons before and the process is long but the results are a money saver.
1. Make sure you have enough scrap cloth left over from you project to use for button covers. I want my buttons made with the same pattern as the clothing I am making.
2. Purchase a pack of cheap buttons. They are going to be covered anyway so it does not mater what they look like. I chose a dome black 2 hole button at 50 cents per 6 pieces.
3. Draw an outline circle at least 1 cm around the circumference of the button. I used the bottom of a shot glass which seemed to be the perfect size.
4. Cut the cloth out with a shears or roller.
5. Using a needle and a thread starting from the underside stitch the thread along the rim of the circle you cut out. Use small stitch lengths to ensure that the cloth gathers correctly.
6. Once you reach the end of the circle insert the button in the middle of the cloth and pull on the thread ends. It will gather the outer stitch to create a firm hold on the button.
7. You are done with one button, have shot.
