Is Apple planning to kill the iPod?
Has Apple just put its iPod on death row? The tech giant this week sent gadget geeks’ tongues a-wagging after it removed the iconic 14-year media player from its main menu on its home page.

I remember feeling like the cool guy in middle school because I was the first one with the gen 5 iPod Nano. The iPod was a great thing for my generation growing up, but it's time is up. We've come to a point where MP3 specific devices don't make sense anymore. Like the article said, why carry two devices when you can carry one?
I don't know. I have both an iPod Nano,and a full size iPod Classic (in addition to my iPhone), and find both nearly irreplaceable. The nearly weightless nano while running has the added benefit of leaving the phone (and therefore distracting phone calls) at home, and while traveling the Classic allows me to bring my entire music library with me without worrying about connectivity.
I don't know how large your music library is, but wouldn't it be possible for most people to import their files directly to their phone so long as the phone memory is large enough? I realize that a lot of people don't quite have the memory on their phones to store their libraries yet, but I feel that eventually, 32 and 64 GB phone memory is going to become the norm, at which point it just wouldn't make sense to have that second device.
It's going to be awhile before the flash based iPhones match the 160gig of the classic. But, yes, eventually the Classic will be obsolete.
Yup. Streaming apps have really taken over so iPods are less and less useful. Why would I go to the itunes store to get a couple exclusive songs when I can pay $10 a month and have a bunch of playlists downloaded to my phone on Spotify.
With micro sd card becoming larger with each month we don't have a need for a standalone device to play our music. I have all my music on my phone and still have plenty of room to download apps and take pictures. Phones are almost everything nowadays.
It would make sense, just sayin.
