I got a Walkman for Christmas one year. That year, we were traveling long-distance to be with family for Christmas, so my parents and I opened the presents at our house before we left. One of them was the Walkman. I was thrilled. Of course, it being new, it made the trip with me to my relatives' house. Problem was that it didn't seem to make the trip back. I had that Walkman for less than a week.
It was early August 1987, and I was opening my birthday presents, er well, just one present (my pop pulled some vampire approved hours to get this for me). Wrapped under that glorious 80's paper skin was a Sony Walkman Sport, which in my eyes was a true marvel of technology at the time. I took that thing everywhere, and used it for years! The first time hearing depeche mode, ac/dc, metallica... oh those were the days. The hinges finally gave way in 93 and now it rests somewhere in a box at my parents place collecting dust, maybe one day I'll find it and let it rip just one more time.
Nice! Good dad to pull those kind of hours to get his kid the perfect present :)
I think I washed his car free of charge for like a decade after that though. Naa, j/k it was only a few months and I did it because I wanted to :D
Man, that would suck - especially since the WM only lasted 6 years :)
I remember when I got my first walkman. I was 11. I didn't think life could get any better than that hahaha!
