Disney Buys Maker Studios, and YouTube Investors Cheer
Now it’s a done deal: As we first reported two weeks ago, Disney has indeed bought Maker Studios, the YouTube network that generates 5.5 billion views a month, for $500 million. That number could swell up by another $450 million, depending on the way the property performs after the acquisition. So the total price could hit $950 million, but we won’t know for some time.

Recordings, Posted Online, Rattle Officials in Turkey
If any meeting was meant to be private, it was this one: the top spy chief, the foreign minister and his deputy, and a top military official discussing secret plans for possible military action in Syria. But in Turkey little, it seems, is beyond the skills of those who have been wiretapping and bugging the conversations of high-level officials and releasing the recordings on social media.

Why Hollywood is making it rain on the YouTube ecosystem and why it's only beginning
After Dreamworks Animation acquired YouTube multi-channel network (MCN) AwesomenessTV, a prominent online video investor predicted to Pando that the category was ripe for consolidation and Hollywood M&A execs were beginning to lick their chops. That investor was Greycroft Ventures’ Mark Terbeek and his words at the time were, “I think [the space is] going to get wild in terms of transactions.”

Who Invented the Internet? And Why?
The internet is such a crucial tool in our daily lives today that we hardly remember that it hasn't been here forever. But yeah, it is actually not that old. We still have fuzzy memories about the time before the first thing in the morning was to check email and browse our favorite blogs and youtube channels. Well, let's explore how the internet came into existence and why.

Drunken fool tries to squeeze through a fence; owned by child
This video is a good reminder that, 1) we probably shouldn’t drink to the point of getting drunk, 2) we should never take anything a drunk person says too seriously, 3) look around the whole fence before trying to get past it. I do love the somber music playing, it makes this video seem so much more dramatic.

Vine Launches A Six-Second YouTube
When Vine first launched on the web, all you could do was view your stream and check out profiles for individual users. The desktop version came with TV Mode, too, which was admittedly addictive with its constant stream of full-screen content. But today Vine is going big on the web, bringing a number of the navigation and discovery features you’re used to in the app straight to your desktop. Plus, all of the content is accessible to anyone on the web, with no sign-in required.

How YouTube and Internet Journalism Destroyed Tom Cruise, Our Last Real Movie Star
It was Jason Tugman's first day of work. Almost a decade later, he still remembers the screams. A former circus fire-eater, he'd taken a job as a lighting technician for The Oprah Winfrey Show after burning off a chunk of his tongue. The pay was $32 an hour and he didn't want to screw it up. But as Tugman carefully hung black curtains in Studio B, directly behind the orange set where Oprah taped, those screams wouldn't stop. The crowd sounded as if it was going to tear the building down.
