FBI confirms: Officials discussed deal to cover up Clinton emails

Newly released documents from the FBI's year-long investigation of Hillary Clinton's server indicate officials discussed a deal in which the FBI considered declassifying some of the classified emails that were found, if the State Department could agree to boosting the FBI's presence in Iraq. FBI notes released Monday show that Patrick Kennedy, State's undersecretary for management, pressured the FBI to change the classified markings on an email that had been upgraded to "secret."

As Washington state prepares to swear in its first blind lieutenant governor, the Senate has undergone a makeover that incorporates Braille into that chamber's floor sessions. On a recent day just weeks before the start of the legislative session that begins Monday, the desks of 49 senators got an upgrade: a system that will allow Lt. Gov.-elect Cyrus Habib to know by the touch of his finger which lawmaker is seeking to be recognized to speak.

Your Driver's License Might Not Work at the Airport in 2018

Yet another reason to renew that passport sooner rather than later. Bad news for Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Washington: Starting January 22, 2018, driver's licenses issued by these states will no longer be accepted at TSA checkpoints. They fail to meet the federal government’s minimum security standards under the Real ID Act. Instead, travelers have to use another form of identification to pass through security for domestic flights—think military ID, permanent resident card, or passport.

A team of scientists selected by federal officials in Seattle have come across new evidence in the mystery of D.B. Cooper. The Citizen Sleuths have been analyzing particles found on the clip-on-tie that Cooper left behind after he hijacked a Northwest Orient airplane in November 1971. Tom Kaye, the lead researcher of the group, told King 5 on Friday that a powerful microscope used in their investigation has found more than 100,000 particles on the JCPenny tie.

Women's March on Washington set to be one of America's biggest protests

It began as a spontaneous feminist rallying cry via social media. It has morphed into what is expected to be one of the largest demonstrations in American history – a boisterous march about a smorgasbord of progressive issues, and an extraordinary display of dissent on a president’s first day in office peppered with knit pink hats. Before the bunting and barriers are even cleared away from Friday’s inauguration of Donald Trump, hundreds of thousands are likely to attend the Women’s March on Washington the following day, 21 January.

Trump the Outsider Outsources His Budget to Insider Think Tank

Presidents Trump's budget proposal, released on Thursday, echoes none of the populist, anti-establishment themes of candidate Trump’s campaign for higher office. Instead, it calls for a large increase in defense spending while reducing spending for a variety of popular domestic programs. That’s not surprising considering where those ideas came from. Rather than bringing in new ideas from outside of the Beltway, many of its proposals are lifted straight from the recommendations of an elite ultra-conservative D.C. think tank: the Heritage Foundation.

The Trump Elite. Like the Old Elite, but Worse!

Legislation can be crafted bottom up or top down. In bottom up you ask, What problems do voters have and how can they be addressed. In top down, you ask, What problems do elite politicians have and how can they be addressed? The House Republican health care bill is a pure top-down document. It was not molded to the actual health care needs of regular voters. It does not have support from actual American voters or much interest in those voters. It was written by elites to serve the needs of elites. Donald Trump vowed to drain the swamp, but this bill is pure swamp.

Donald Trump indeed wanted procession of military vehicles for his inauguration parade

You might remember, back in those last few weeks when the nation had a president who wasn't an incompetent, narcissistic mess, the news that Donald Trump was interested in turning his upcoming inaugural parade into a Soviet-styled military procession with tanks and missile launchers and whatever else might look good rolling through the streets of the nation's capital on the day we gave up all pretense of being anything better. Upon this becoming public, it was denied by the Trump team. Hey, guess what? It turns out Team Pumpkinfuhrer was lying.

Germany: Trump's actions have 'weakened' West

Germany's foreign minister launched a scathing criticism of Donald Trump on Monday, claiming the US President's actions have "weakened" the West and accusing the US government of standing "against the interests of the European Union." Just 24 hours after German Chancellor Angela Merkel declared that Europe could no longer completely rely on traditional allies such as the US and Britain, the country's top diplomat, Sigmar Gabriel, went a step further.
