Sony vs. Facebook: the battle for your reality has just begun
Virtual reality is truly coming. There’s no longer any question. In the span of a single week, two titans emerged to proclaim that VR would be the future of their industries. Facebook and Sony, companies which respectively defined social networking and personal electronics, each validated what plucky startup Oculus VR had been saying all along: that virtual reality will be a bold new medium for gaming, for communication, and much, much more.

Facebook Going Virtual Reality with Oculus Rift
The beginning of Spring not only brought the hope of longer days and greener lawns through the purchase of Oculus Rift by Facebook for $2 billion dollars. That $2 billion being paid in $400 million is cash and $1.6 billion in Facebook stock. Not too far after massive purchase of the messaging app Whatsapp for $16 billion dollars.

How Zuck met Oculus: Facebook's big bet on virtual reality
Mark Zuckerberg's acquisitions have a formula: They never, ever leak because they come together quickly. Facebook's $19 billion acquisition of WhatsApp, for example, was reportedly sealed over chocolate-covered strawberries on Valentines Day, and the deal announced four days later. One month after that, Facebook's $2 billion deal for Oculus VR was solidified over dinner at Zuckerberg's home. Within the week, the deal was done.

Why Are Norwegian Tank Drivers Wearing Oculus Rift Headsets?
If you are a soldier, the inside of a tank is a very desirable place to be to avoid enemy bullets. The downside, of course, is that if you are piloting a gigantic armored vehicle, it can be very difficult to see what's going on around you on the battlefield. What to do?

The Norwegian army has announced that they have begun testing the possibility of using the Oculus Rift virtual goggle system in tanks to help expand the field of view for soldiers inside. “We’re very close.” In just three words, Palmer Luckey of OculusVR fame, perfectly summarized not only where virtual reality stands, but perhaps the entire neurogaming industry. Luckey was on hand to present with other industry leaders for the 2nd edition of the NeuroGaming Conference, an annual event in San Francisco. The Inside Story of Oculus Rift and How Virtual Reality Became Reality
Oculus has found a way to make a headset that does more than just hang a big screen in front of your face. By combining stereoscopic 3-D, 360-degree visuals, and a wide field of view—along with a supersize dose of engineering and software magic—it hacks your visual cortex. As far as your brain is concerned, there’s no difference between experiencing something on the Rift and experiencing it in the real world.

Oculus VR and its founder sued by ZeniMax and id Software
Oculus VR and its founder Palmer Luckey are being sued by id Software and its owner ZeniMax Media over claims that they illegally misappropriated trade secrets. The lawsuit, which was filed in a Texas court today, alleges that Luckey and his company used ZeniMax technology in order to build development tools for the Oculus Rift. It says that those actions represent contract breach, copyright infringement, and unfair competition, all things that ZeniMax says add up to an "enormous value."

Have we learned anything from the VR freakout that happened over 20 years ago?
At a conference last month, I experienced the virtual reality equivalent of bungee jumping: a “pit” demo. Wearing a high-end headset in a booth that tracked my movement, I walked a metal plank above a virtual floor. At the command of the exhibitor – who worked with a VR design company called WorldViz – the plank rose high into the air.
