Valve Software co-founder Gabe Newell becomes a video game character
We thought that Valve Software would be the first to turn the company's beloved co-founder Gabe Newell into a playable video game character, but that honor has instead been snatched by the Australian design team behind co-op dungeon battler Crawl. As reported at Eurogamer, designer Barney Cumming took to the game's development blog on Thursday to post a brief yet tantalizing GIF of his latest in-game creation, and it appeared to portray Newell as a playable "boss" in the game.

Valve's "Get It Early" hardware preorders are sold out
As the name suggests, Valve's "Get It Early" scheme offered advance access to the company's forthcoming range of hardware to those willing to throw down cash before anyone else. But "only while supplies last," Valve warned earlier this month, when it announced that 35 percent of the stock had already been sold. And now it seems that the remaining 65 percent is gone too.

Steam Hit by Major Security Breach, Many Accounts Hacked
Valve’s Steam is the biggest platform in the PC gaming market, with Valve themselves being one of the most prominent companies in the gaming industry as a whole. Steam has millions of accounts all over the world, and in some cases people have invested literally thousands of dollars into their own accounts. Which is why a security breach like the one that just occurred a few days ago is something to take very seriously.

Steam Machines won’t have a "suspend" function
Valve has given up trying to imitate this feature on its upcoming line of SteamOS-powered Steam Machine consoles, though. In a Github bug report thread, a Valve engineer wrote this weekend that Linux's "suspend" function is "no longer supported" in current SteamOS builds. Asked why, the engineer responded that "given the state of hardware and software support throughout the graphics stack on Linux we didn't think we could make this reliable."

Valve hits a Linux landmark—1,500 games available on Steam
A few months after Valve officially launched Steam for Linux in 2013, Gabe Newell gave his LinuxCon keynote crowd a bit of music for their ears. "It feels a little bit funny coming here and telling you guys that Linux and open source are the future of gaming," the Valve head-man said. "It's sort of like going to Rome and teaching Catholicism to the pope."
