A court in Saudi Arabia has dropped the charge of sexual assault against the father of Luma, the five-year-old daughter he had beaten to death. The decision was taken after no trace of semen was found on her body, Saudi daily Al Sharq reported on Wednesday. The father’s lawyer added that the charge of manslaughter was also dropped and that the court considered in its ruling only the charge of “excessive disciplining that resulted in death” against the father.

In Yemen, 34 killed in bottling factory bombing
A Saudi-led airstrike on a water bottling factory in Yemen on Sunday left 34 people dead and dozens injured, the Houthi-run Yemeni Defense Ministry said. The Houthi rebels are acting as the government in Yemen, while the internationally recognized government is in exile. Brig. Gen. Ahmed Asseri, a spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition against the rebels, said the bombing target was used by the Houthis to make explosive devices and to train African migrants forced to take up arms.

The Ministry of Social Affairs has banned Saudi families from adopting Syrian or other foreign children. “The ministry does not sponsor Arab children who lost their parents in conflicts, such as in Syria and Iraq. There are global humanitarian organizations that deal with these cases,” said Latifah Al-Tamimi, director of social supervision at the ministry in the Eastern Province.
