Self-described "misogynist" social media influencer and former kickboxer Andrew Tate will be spending the beginning of 2023 behind bars after police in Romania detained him and his brother as part of an investigation into rape and human trafficking. According to prosecutors, the siblings and two others "appear to have created an organized crime group with the purpose of recruiting, housing, and exploiting women by forcing them to create pornographic content."

Romania’s improved crypto profit tax is imposed on the earning or gains rather than revenue earned from cryptocurrency investments. From now on the Bitcoin earning (instead of revenue) are needed to be declared in the annual income statement at the time of tax filing. Reports say the crypto earning that are less than 200 Romanian ron are exept from taxing. The reported 10% Bitcoin and crypto profit tax will be imposed only when the profit earned from cryptocurrency investments exceed a cumulative 600 Romanian ron in a specific tax year.

Bronze age tombs discovered in Romania
Specialists from the Buzău County Museums have identified nine tombs dating back to the Bronze Age in Cârlomăneşti, in Eastern Romania’s Buzău county. According to the report published by the Romania Insider, the tombs alongside several other objects will be restored and put on display in the museum. The newly-discovered tombs are believed to belong to people who lived in the area between 2000 – 1600 B.C.

Romania looks to buy 20 more F-16s
Romania is looking to increase the size of its fighter fleet after the government decided to apportion 2% of GDP for defence in 2017. The Parliament and Supreme Defence Council (CSAT) have approved the decision. "My intention is to finalise this year the decision to have another 20 F-16 fighters. The Romanian Air Force has nine now and there will be 12 by the end of the year, but we need more to strengthen our air force capability. As a matter of principle Romania intends to buy these 20 F-16 fighters from the United States.

Russia sees Romania as a Nato outpost and "a clear threat" due to it hosting elements of a US anti-missile shield, a senior foreign ministry official has said. "Romania's stance and the stance of its leadership, who have turned the country into an outpost, is a clear threat for us," Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko told the Interfax news agency in an interview. The US military says the shield is needed to protect from Iran, not threaten Russia.
