The first self-driving electric shuttle for use on public roads has been delivered to the Netherlands. The "WEpod" will take passengers between the two towns of Wageningen and Ede in the province of Gelderland from November. This machine produces the largest humanmade waves in the world
Dutch scientists are making waves—big ones. A new experimental facility at Deltares, a research institute here, has begun producing the largest humanmade waves in the world. Like kids building sandcastles below the tideline on the beach, scientists will let the walls of water crash on dikes of different designs and other structures—sometimes until they're destroyed.

The Dutch Built a Massive Wave Machine to Study Flooding
Their machine, the Delta Flume, works like this: Pistons rhythmically shove around more than two million gallons of water in a 900-foot-long concrete trough, like a giant toddler splashing back and forth in a bathtub. Eventually, the waves double back on themselves to form monsters up to 15 feet high.

What life with pot looks like in a country where it’s been basically legal for 40 years
If anyone in the world has experience with marijuana legalization, it's the Dutch. For nearly 40 years, the limited sale and use of the plant has been effectively legalized — so-called "coffee shops" are allowed to stock and sell small quantities of cannabis to adult buyers. With four decades of experience to draw from you might assume that the Dutch have some opinions on marijuana legalization that we might learn from. And as it turns out, they do.

This is what a sensible drug policy looks like
This video, which was released last year, was produced by the city of Amsterdam to warn tourists that heroin was being sold by street dealers as cocaine. The city set up signs and offered inexpensive drug test kits so people could test the street drugs they'd purchased and find out if it contained heroin. The video ends with the promise that drug users will not be arrested for using drugs or for reporting the discovery of white heroin, or for seeking medical help in an emergency.

Netherlands Close Prisons Because Of Lack Of Criminals
As prison populations surge in the UK, with overcrowded cells and repeat offenders, the opposite is happening in the Netherlands. The country is actually to close eight prisons because of a lack of criminals, the Dutch justice ministry has announced. Declining crime rates in the Netherlands mean that although the country has the capacity for 14,000 prisoners, there are only 12,000 detainees, reported the nrc.nl.

The Sheltersuit Is A Wearable Homeless Shelter Made From Sleeping Bags
The Sheltersuit is a home that you wear. Designed in the Netherlands for use by homeless people, the suit is a water-resistant, insulated jacket and sleeping bag, which zip together to keep the wearer warm and dry when they sleep on the street. "The Netherlands is well set up for the homeless," designer Bas Timmer told Co.Exist, "but for every person who gets a bed, one still sleeps rough." Timmer was moved to do something when the father of a friend died on the street...
