Apple iPad mini (2019) review: Reliable, not revolutionary
After three long years, Apple's smallest tablet, the iPad mini, is back. But the new iPad mini isn't completely new the way the iPad Pros are. Like someone returning from years spent abroad, the new iPad mini is still mostly the same tablet as the iPad mini 4 released in 2015 — it looks identical (bezels and all) and works with all previous accessories — but its skills have leveled up.

iFixit has published its teardown of the new, fifth-generation iPad mini—the first update to Apple's smaller-sized tablet since 2015. The iFixit team—which sells gear for repairing and servicing gadgets and uses these teardown series to promote said gear—noted that the iPad mini looks on the outside like a smaller version of the new iPad Air. But on the inside, it's an updated iPad mini 4, the team wrote.

This week in tech history: Apple releases the first iPad
Former Apple CEO Steve Jobs introduced the iPad in January of 2010, but April 3rd was the first day normal people could get their hands on a device that represented Apple's vision for the future of computing. That sounds like a seriously high-minded goal for a device that many derisively referred to as a "giant iPod touch" when it was announced, but Jobs pulled no punches in that first presentation.

Highlights included dark mode for iOS 13, a "Sign in with Apple" feature that's clearly shade at Facebook and Google, an App Store and menstrual cycle tracking for Apple Watches, and the death of iTunes. Oh, and of course, the ridiculously powerful and pricey new "cheese grater" Mac Pro.

Apple Considering Less Disruptive Siri Behavior in Future Version of iPadOS
Say "Hey Siri" when using an iPad, and Apple's virtual assistant will take over the entire display, obscuring whatever you were doing on the device. Say the same thing to your Mac, however, and Siri responds in a more multitasking-friendly way by appearing in a small window in the corner of the screen, allowing you to drag and drop retrieved items from it.
