When I want to post a gif of something I can't find a better tag then "Video". There are big differences between a video and a gif.

Eh, this snap of yours links to gfycat, which uses compressed webm (others transform it to .mp4) video for HTML5. When gif is used shorthandedly for what seems at least the past decade or more, it was shorthand for "animated gif", which, let's be honest, still forms a video clip, no audio, and looped. And if you were linking a non-animated gif, it would fall under image. So I personally don't see these "big differences". And it is not as if I am pulling all my interpretations of .gif out of my ass.
