Some Huawei Mate 20 Pro users getting Android 10-based EMUI 10 early
You might want to stop refreshing your “check for updates” page because it looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer for the stable version of Android 10 on the Mate 20 Pro. Huawei Central has received word from the company that the software is still only available as part of its beta program that is currently only running in China. The publication was also sent further detail regarding the update which contains the word “log” at the end of the build number, indicating this particular isn’t the stable version.

Google addresses Huawei ban and warns customers not to sideload apps like Gmail and YouTube
Google on Friday evening published a support article meant to clarify the ongoing situation with Huawei. Last year, the United States government barred companies in the US from working with the Chinese hardware maker. “Google is prohibited from working with Huawei on new device models or providing Google’s apps including Gmail, Maps, YouTube, the Play Store and others for preload or download on these devices,” Tristan Ostrowski, legal director for Android and Google Play, wrote in the post, which was picked up by 9to5Google.

The U.S. Commerce Department had announced a new rule change last week, aimed at cutting Huawei off from global chip suppliers. According to Nikkei, Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC has stopped taking new orders from Huawei in response to the new restrictions. Citing multiple sources, the publication says the decision was difficult for TSMC as Huawei is its second-biggest client. All of the Kirin mobile processors designed by Huawei subsidiary HiSilicon were so far manufactured by TSMC. In addition to mobile processors, Huawei depended heavily on TSMC for its AI processors and networking chips as well.

How America’s war on Huawei may boost Chinese technology
Huawei is on the ropes. From midnight on September 14th the Chinese technology giant will be cut off from essential supplies of semiconductors. Without chips it cannot make the smartphones or mobile-network gear on which its business depends. America’s latest rules, finalised on August 17th, prohibit companies worldwide from selling chips to Huawei if they have been made with American chipmaking kit. American semiconductor companies, for which Huawei has been a lucrative customer, have implored their government to extend the deadline, as have their industry bodies. A full reprieve looks unlikely.
