Everything New Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate Brings to Nintendo Switch
The Monster Hunter series is a strange beast. On one hand, its giant monsters, over-the-top weapons, and extensive menus demand screen real-estate and (ideally) dual control sticks. On the other, slaying monsters in person with friends pushes it over the edge into ultra-awesome territory for me.

A Message to the Community - No Man's Sky
We always wanted No Man’s Sky to grow and develop after it released. I’m happy we’ve been able to do that. I am so proud of the team at Hello Games, what they did was incredible. Over the years of development the average team size was 6, the final team was just 15 people at...

No Man’s Sky is finally discovering signs of life in its AI universe
Today Hello Games is releasing something called No Man’s Sky Next. It is not a sequel to the massively ambitious 2016 game No Man’s Sky but rather the latest in an ongoing attempt to make it hew closer to what No Man’s Sky was once thought to be. This will be difficult for Hello Games to accomplish, given that, from the moment it was announced, No Man’s Sky was anticipated with the fervency of an apocalyptic death cult. Those don’t typically end well, and No Man’s Sky has struggled, to say the least.

Dragon Ball FighterZ Becomes Evo’s Highest Watched Game Ever on Twitch
Being the much newer game with the most viewers at last month’s CEO tournament, we predicted that Dragon Ball FighterZ would take the #1 spot at the biggest fighting game event of the year, Evolution Championship Series 2018. However, Day 1 and Day 2 of Evo 2018 made it seem like that might not be the case… and surprisingly, Capcom’s Street Fighter V more than doubled FighterZ viewer counts on Twitch during the first two days of this year’s event.

This Land is My Land takes a different view of the Wild West than Red Dead Redemption
With Red Dead Redemption 2 coming later this year, interest in Wild West games is at a heightened level. So it’s interesting to take a look at a game in development that seems broadly similar to RDR 2, but is taking a very different approach to the subject. This Land is My Land — due out in the first half of next year — is an open-world game set in late 19th century frontier, but it’s played from the point of view of a Native American.

Cyber-samurai arcade slasher Akane is out now and feels as sharp as it looks
A cyberpunk samurai abandons her wrecked motorcycle and makes a last stand against a tide of futuristic Yakuza goons, sword in hand and revolver at her hip. I’ve played a few rounds of Akane, Ludic Studios’s debut arcade slash ’em up and had a good time with it, so wanted to share some quick thoughts. Akane feels a bit like a cooler, more considered Tormentor X Punisher – a short, stylish arcade game where death seems inevitable and the music makes it all feel like a spin around a particularly blood-slick dance floor. It’s out now, only costs a couple quid, and is trailered below.

Not every game needs to sell 500k
Since Devolver Digital began in 2009, the publisher hasn't been shy about taking risks on indies. By extension, neither has co-founder Nigel Lowrie. Though Devolver started out essentially as the new publisher for Serious Sam after 2K began to focus on other titles, it didn't stay that way for long. After publishing successful HD versions of Croteam's over-the-top shooter series, it tested the waters of indie publishing further by pairing the successful Serious Sam IP with other developers, such as Vlambeer. That connection with Vlambeer was what led Devolver to Dennaton Games and Hotline Miami.

Wolfenstein 3 is 'absolutely' being made
The Wolfenstein series numbering scheme is a little messy. Castle Wolfenstein was the first, but the FPS series as we know it started 25 years ago with Wolfenstein 3D. Sequels and reboots led to Wolfenstein—just Wolfenstein—in 2009, after which Bethesda took over and gave us Wolfenstein: The New Order and then Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, neither of which were Wolfenstein 2, which didn't come along until last year. This year, Bethesda revealed Wolfenstein: Youngblood at E3, which in keeping with that complicated tradition is not Wolfenstein 3 but rather a standalone spin-off.

Why Mario Works: Super Mario as Transformative Icon for the Working Class
Nintendo’s Mario has transcended the realm of character and sits firmly in the realm of icon. Two Hours With The Amazingly Detailed Red Dead Redemption 2
I played Red Dead Redemption 2 for the first time this week, and I swiftly caused glorious chaos. Yesterday I sampled a section of Rockstar Games’ upcoming western at their New York City headquarters, a location game-previewing press haven’t had much reason to visit in the last half decade. There, I hoped to finally get a feel for the mega-studio’s first new game since 2013’s Grand Theft Auto V. It’s out so soon, just a little over a month from now on PS4 and Xbox One.
