Driverless cars at Ford tackle snow problem
Motoring giant Ford says it has conducted successful tests of its driverless cars in snowy conditions. The company said it had been running sensor tests for more than a year, but was now driving autonomous cars in a controlled, snowy environment. Snow presents a challenge to driverless cars because the sensors they use to detect road markings and hazards do not work well in wintery weather.

Ford's new room-sized 3D printer upends additive manufacturing as we know it
Like nearly every automaker, Ford is keen to figure out how 3D printing can improve its ability to develop and build new cars. Additive manufacturing holds the promise of shorter lead times, increased customization and lighter weight parts, among other efficiencies. Unsurprisingly, there's a lot of blue-sky thinking out there, and still not a ton of actionable data. But that's changing, including at the Ford Motor Company, which has an impressive new tool in its arsenal, the Stratasys Infinite Build 3D Printer.

Raj Nair, Ford’s Chief Technology Officer, now says that the vehicle will be mass-produced, hinting that it will not be a compliance car, and priced affordably.

Ford Disguised a Person as a Seat to Test How We React to Driverless Cars
A Ford van zooming around the Washington D.C. area last month, seemingly without a human in the driver’s seat, wasn’t self-driving after all: it was a man in a ‘seat suit.’ A fake driverless car might seem like a weird experiment, especially considering the fact that there’s an entire fake town for testing self-driving vehicles at Ford’s disposal.
