A Camrose man is ticked about his ticket — a $465 traffic violation issued by Edmonton police — for having a cracked driver's licence. Dave Balay admits he's guilty of having a small crack in his licence. But he doesn't think the penalty fits the crime. Fort McMurray fire now too large, too fierce to stop without rain

School boards registering Fort McMurray students
Edmonton’s schools are already seeing students register for class from Fort McMurray. A system has been set up in both school divisions after consultation with education minister Dave Eggen. Joan Carr, the superintendent for Edmonton Catholic has spelled out the procedure with all staff. “We will be accepting all students from Fort McMurray who want to register in our schools to continue their education with as little interruption as possible,” she wrote in a memo obtained by Corus News.

Edmonton approves bylaw allowing ride-sharing companies like Uber to operate
Edmonton city council has approved a bylaw that will allow ride-sharing companies like Uber to operate legally. Councillors voted in favour of the bylaw on Wednesday. The bylaw, which takes effect March 1, includes two licences: one for ride-sharing companies, called private transportation providers, and the other for taxis. Mayor Don Iveson said the bylaw is a result of demand for more choice in the vehicle for hire industry.
