Truck smashes into overpass
Video taken on Long Island, NY. Trucks here are not supposed to drive on the parkways, due to low overpasses. Earlier today, as I was driving, I saw a tractor trailer driving down the parkway in the right lane. I knew that something was about to happen, and I immediately started recording. Soon after I started recording, the truck struck an overpass, and was obliterated. I pulled over to make sure the driver was okay. He was fine, but clearly upset.

Seoul has created special women-only parking spots to make the South Korea capital more female-friendly - not, apparently, as a statement on the gender's driving ability. The city is spending around $100 million on initiatives including the new parking spaces that are dubbed 'she-spots' and come marked with bright pink outlines and a skirted woman logo.

Ex-RCMP officer co-invents marijuana breathalyzer
A former British Columbia RCMP officer has co-invented a marijuana breathalyzer he hopes will eventually be used to catch motorists who "drug and drive." Kal Malhi worked in the drug enforcement division for four of his 10-year RCMP career. The NSW government has begun cracking down on the "ride-sharing" component of the smartphone app Uber by issuing $2500 fines and threatening legal action against motorists who offer the service. 25% of recalled cars in U.S. aren't fixed despite notice
One of every four cars recalled in the U.S. isn’t fixed, leaving millions of potentially dangerous vehicles on the road. Some car owners mistake safety recall notices for junk mail and toss them without opening them. In some cases, owners may not think a recall is serious and opt not to get their cars fixed right away — or at all.

Why you shouldn't drive slowly in the left lane
There are basically two types of drivers: those who get worked up about people driving slowly in the left lane, and those who do it all the time and have no idea they're upsetting everyone else.

2030 May Be The Year They'll Take Your Driver's License Away
I was stuck in traffic yesterday, which I didn't really mind because I have a fun little yellow convertible, and I was thinking about Uber ($17 billion! - that's the company's valuation, not the price of a ride) and Google's driverless cars (development cost unknown), and I decided it was time to connect the dots: once a car learns to drive, there's no need to own it and there's no need for a driver.

What’s Up With That: Building Bigger Roads Actually Makes Traffic Worse
The concept is called induced demand, which is economist-speak for when increasing the supply of something (like roads) makes people want that thing even more. Though some traffic engineers made note of this phenomenon at least as early as the 1960s, it is only in recent years that social scientists have collected enough data to show how this happens pretty much every time we build new roads.
