The Lamborghini Terzo Millennio concept is a lightning strike from the future
The newest, most outrageous, “super extreme” idea from Lamborghini is a box. Well, metaphorically. The Italian supercar giant unveiled a new slice of its future today with the Terzo Millennio, an electric hypercar concept with some really bold ideas under its hood. But the Terzo Millennio is more than just a beautiful (and for now, completely static) thought experiment that Lamborghini revealed in the cool Boston air on Monday. It’s also the name of the unique project in partnership with MIT that is bringing the concept car to life.

Porsche built an electric Cayman concept that's surprisingly quick
Some of the most interesting cars never leave the concept phase. Porsche's latest EV is one of those. Porsche unveiled the Cayman E-volution concept at the 2017 Electric Vehicle Symposium. It packs an all-electric drivetrain that sends the car to 62 mph in just 3.3 seconds, more than a second quicker than the current 718 Cayman S. Its battery only lasts about 125 miles between charges, but that's fine, because it's never going into series production.

Futuristic electric straddling bus concept is now a real full-scale prototype
You’ve probably seen to impressive renderings of an interesting concept for a futuristic electric straddling bus that has been making the rounds in China since earlier this year, but as it turns out, the company behind the concept, Transit Explore Bus or TEB, already produced a full-scale prototype which it inaugurated for a pilot project in Qinhuangdao today. The straddling bus serves the same purpose as a subway system, to provide mass transit without taking up space for road traffic, but TEB estimates that the cost of implementation is only about 16% of the cost of a subway due to removing the need for tunnels.

There’s a new patent-free fast charging system for electric buses
As Tesla and its Supercharger network have demonstrated, it's a lot easier for people to make the switch to electric vehicles if there's a robust and rapid charging infrastructure in place. But we have to electrify more than just passenger vehicles if we want to get serious about reducing emissions. EV manufacturer Proterra certainly thinks so, which is why it just opened up the patents for a new fast-charging system it has developed for electric buses.

Cyborg rose has electric circuits running through polymer veins
A rose by any other name would… conduct electricity? The worlds of botany and consumer electronics don’t typically overlap. But a new device has merged electronics with biology, taking a step towards a world in which plants and computers are more intertwined. The breakthrough came earlier this year in a lab in southern Sweden. Magnus Berggren, a professor of organic electronics at Linköping University, led a team that built a working electronic circuit...

Why Can't the World Just Pick One Design for Plugs?
When you travel internationally, power outlets provide a pretty good reminder that you’re not in Kansas anymore. Outlets vary wildly depending on the part of the world, both in the shape of their sockets and the voltage with which they’re compatible. For those who travel across multiple regions, it can be frustrating. And it’s probably too late to solve this problem, because of decisions made more than a century ago.

Students in Switzerland built a wheelchair that knows how to climb stairs
An electric wheelchair that can climb most stairs, including spiral staircases, has been developed by Zurich-based students. The Scalevo Wheelchair can mount one stair per second and was designed by 10 students at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) and the Zurich University of the Arts. When being used on normal flat ground it balances on two wheels like a Segway and allows users to turn on the spot in order to quickly change direction.
