    Michael Jordan gives $7M to open medical clinics in poor areas of Charlotte

    Hornets owner Michael Jordan is donating $7 million to launch two medical clinics in troubled Charlotte communities, in one of the largest gifts ever from the basketball legend with deep ties to North Carolina. Novant Health is expected on Monday to announce Jordan’s personal gift, which will fund Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Clinics to be built in north and northwest Charlotte. One will be at 3149 and 3153 Freedom Drive; the other will be in the Brightwalk development on Statesville Avenue.

    Video shows Charlotte man had arms raised when police shot him

    Newly released video from the September police shooting of Ruben Galindo shows he had his hands raised above his head seconds before he was fatally shot by police. App users click here. The video shows Galindo, who is Hispanic, first appear in his doorway holding something indiscernible in his hand. About three to four seconds later, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers begin to shout orders, first in Spanish then in English, for him show his hands and drop his gun before gunshots ring out. The 30-year-old then falls to the ground outside the northeast Charlotte apartment.
