Orioles Ball Girl Ignores Umpire, Fields Live Baseball
We understand the role of ball boys/girls when it comes to protecting bullpens from foul balls, and occasionally they make highlight plays. But they sure do screw up a bunch, and today a ball girl in Baltimore committed the ultimate sin by ignoring the third base umpire's fair signal and fielding a live baseball as Blue Jays runners headed toward the plate.

Baseball’s Replay System Is Ludicrous. MLB Should Adopt Tennis’s System Instead.
Major League Baseball’s replay review era has arrived, and I already wish it would end. That’s because the system is a mess, robbing the sport of clarity and—just as significantly—drama.

Japanese pitcher fools batter (and ump!) with this epic eephus pitch
Japanese right-hander Kazuhito Tadano is no stranger to eephus pitches. But this might be his most epic attempt yet. On Monday, with his Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters facing the Hanshin Tigers, Tadano tossed a most extreme arcing pitch toward batter Mauro Gomez. It landed safely in the catcher's hands, having gone right across the plate ... but the umpire had no idea what to do with it.

Baseball Zombies: 60 Players Have Already Earned Over $1 Million Not Playing This Year
Two dozen new stadiums and billions in television dollars later, MLB counts 60 players who have already earned a million bucks through the first 60-odd games of the 2014 season for not playing, either through (mostly) injury or ineffectiveness. Lower the bar to half a million wasted dollars, and the list grows to 92 players. And this just through the first few days of June; the lists will get much longer as the season progresses.

Yankees Draft a Kenny Powers Clone
With the 422nd pick in the 2014 MLB draft, the New York Yankees selected pitcher Kenny Powers...errr, Sean Carley, out of West Virginia. Powers is, of course, a fictional character played by actor Danny McBride in the hit HBO show Eastbound & Down, while Carley is a very real pitching prospect. He told Florida Today's John Torres that he'll be dropping the Powers look when he gets to the minors.
